The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina is a public institution for adult education, established by the Municipality of Ajdovščina, with almost 70 years of tradition. In the local area and beyond, it is recognised as one of the key educational institutions offering high-quality and accessible programmes for all generations. The main objective of the institution is to provide a wide range of residents with opportunities for personal and professional development and to encourage lifelong learning, helping individuals strengthen their knowledge and achieve their full potential. Through cooperation with stakeholders, it contributes to the growth of the local economy and the cohesion of the community while providing tailored solutions that respond to the challenges of the modern world.

Educational programmes

The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina offers a wide range of general non-formal and officially recognised educational programmes that do not lead to a formally recognised qualification. These include programmes in:

  • Slovenian as a second and foreign language,
  • foreign languages at different levels,
  • general literacy,
  • digital literacy,
  • programmes for the development of key competences for adults,
  • health and personal development,
  • sustainable development, and
  • professional development for employees in companies.

The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina has many years of experience in implementing study circles, which are primarily related to rural areas. Part of the institution is also the Learning Centre Brje, where activities are connected with fruit production and processing. In addition, the institution provides other training courses, advanced training, workshops and lectures.

The programmes are intended for anyone wishing to acquire or upgrade knowledge for personal and professional development, expand their social network, spend their leisure time meaningfully, or for those needing support and motivation when facing new challenges in education, career development or personal growth. Particular emphasis is placed on preventing social exclusion, as the programmes enable the inclusion of various target groups, including those at risk of marginalisation. Through participation in the programmes, individuals not only gain new knowledge and skills but also actively engage in different forms of learning, such as intergenerational and intercultural learning, project-based learning and collaborative work, which help them cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Guidance activities

The institution provides guidance services in adult education, supporting individuals in enrolling in educational programmes, continuing their educational pathways, and identifying and documenting knowledge, skills and competences acquired through non-formal education and informal learning. Within the Self-Directed Learning Centre, individuals are also offered support for independent learning.

Research and development activities

The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina is actively engaged in research and development activities. Within this framework, it carries out various studies in the field of adult education and continuously develops new educational programmes, learning materials, forms and methods of non-formal education that address current challenges. It is also actively involved in quality assessment and quality development, as well as in the development and maintenance of information systems and other developmental activities.

Networking and cooperation at different levels

The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina actively cooperates with:

  • international and national projects addressing social security, career development, the development of key competences, intercultural dialogue, digital literacy, intergenerational cooperation and other areas,
  • various organisations and stakeholders at national level in the field of adult education, including the Ministry of Education, the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education, the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the Employment Service of Slovenia, and the Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants,
  • the local community (e.g. public and private institutions, municipalities, chambers of crafts and commerce, development agencies, associations, local communities and other non-governmental organisations) and with companies in the region in order to adapt educational programmes more effectively to the needs of the local environment and labour market.

The Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina is a member of the Slovenian Adult Education Centres Association (ZLUS). ZLUS is an association of 22 adult education centres from across Slovenia, representing their interests and acting as one of the key professional partners in the development and implementation of lifelong learning and adult education strategies in Slovenia.

Through continuous investment in the quality of educational processes and by ensuring the highest standards of teaching methods and content, the Adult Education Centre Ajdovščina strives to strengthen its position as a modern educational centre open to all generations. It represents a place where people meet, exchange experiences, develop their potential and together build a community prepared for the challenges of the future.
